Welsh Moves to 4th Degree

Inspirational Stillwater Martial Artist Promoted

The Edge Martial Arts Promotes 64 Year Old Student to 4th Degree Black Belt

June 30th, 2010– Stillwater, MN. Mr Stephen Welsh, 64, of Stillwater, earned the rank of Fourth Degree Black Belt Saturday, June 12th, 2010 at The Edge Martial Arts Black Belt Exam. Despite Welsh’s age, accomplishing the requirements, both physical and instructional, in the martial arts is achieved by only a small fraction of all martial artists. “Mr. Welsh should be an inspiration to anyone who trains, or is considering training, in the Martial Arts,” says Master Thorn, Owner and Master Instructor of The Edge Martial Arts. “Few students ever make Black Belt and even fewer will achieve 4th Degree.” In addition, Welsh had the honor of accepting his promotion from a Hall of Fame Member and legendary guest panel member Grand Master J. Pat Burleson – American Karate Pioneer, of Fort Worth, TX.

Stephen Welsh has been training in the Martial Arts since 1991. He has consistently trained an average of 3 days a week throughout his entire career, and holds this same level of commitment even today. As a late entry to competition Welsh was able to claim the N.C.K.A. (North Central Karate Association) #1 Senior Black Belt Sparring Competitor 2 years in a row. Welsh is the Director of The Edge Maplewood, and is also a licensed Yoga Instructor.

Welsh thanked his wife Thea, along with his personal family, his karate family, and Master Thorn for continuing to encourage him, challenge him and allow him to practice his skills throughout his entire journey.
